Litter Picking

How can you help tackle litter?

Individuals and community groups have a large part to play in preventing litter.  Cleaning up demonstrates that littering is not tolerated in our community and encourages people to maintain the cleanliness of the area.

Education

    • Currently the New Forest National Park has a member of staff going into local schools
    • Keep Britain Tidy runs an Eco -Schools Program.  Every school needs to be encouraged to sign up and become a Champion for our area.  Earlier in 2018 Keep Britain Tidy launched a campaign Flickin Blue Murder;  take a look at in on their website or ‘like’ it on Facebook
    • “Bin the Butt”  All smokers should get a personal pouch available at major online stores. Great present for a smoker.

Every Town and Parish Council in the New Forest should be encouraaged to work towards being litter and plastic free and to use all their communication channels to get the message out.

How one area of the UK had 12% of it’s population litter-picking!

What can you do?

Get involved in telling others it’s not cool to drop litter. Help change mindsets in your conversations.

  • Join a local litter pick.  If there isn’t anything happening in your town or village start one!  Become a local litter hero
  • See a large amount of litter/fly-tipping?  Report it with the New Forest in Touch app
